Walk & Wade Across Magallanes — Punta Arenas, Chile

About this experience

Magallanes is not one fishery. It is several, spread across hundreds of kilometres, and which one is worth your time depends almost entirely on when you arrive.

Sebastián Fernández works all three of the main areas. Around Punta Arenas: the Río Penitente, Laguna Parrillar and the spring creeks. North to Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine. And across to Tierra del Fuego. Walk and wade throughout — no boats, just water covered on foot.

His season is unusually precise, and the reason is unglamorous and reassuring: 16 October to 14 April, because outside those dates he works at a ski centre. When a guide tells you exactly when his season starts and ends, he is telling you he is not going to take your money for a week that does not fish.

We are still building out the detail on this one — day rates, what is included, and above all which area fishes best in which month, which is the whole value of working with someone who covers all three. Ask us and we will get answers before you commit to dates.

Rod setup & recommended gear

A 6-weight for the spring creeks and lakes and an 8-weight for the sea-run water is a safe pair for a Magallanes trip. A windproof shell matters more here than any rod choice. Gear and licence policy still to be confirmed.
