About this experience
Puerto Natales is where people go to walk Torres del Paine. It is also, quietly, one of the best-placed fishing bases in southern Chile — and the operation that has done the most with that position is Natales Fly Fishing.
What sets them apart is not a secret pool. It is compliance. The operation meets SERNATUR, CONAF and Torres del Paine National Park requirements, with certified professional guides, authorised transportation and access to a range of exclusive private fishing waters. In a region where a great deal of the best water sits inside a national park or behind an estancia gate, being allowed to fish it is the whole game.
The water itself covers most of what southern Patagonia offers. The Río Penitente holds sea-run brown trout and also serves as the base for the ranch program. The Río Serrano runs Chinook salmon. Brook trout and resident browns fill in the private waters and spring creeks around them. And the park water is park water — scenery that does not need describing and pressure that is a fraction of what its fame would suggest.
Three ways to fish it. A standalone guided day, priced per trip for one to three anglers, which makes it easy to bolt onto a Torres del Paine trekking trip. A hotel-based program of three to six nights out of Puerto Natales, staying at Hotel Kawi. Or the ranch program at Estancia Río Penitente, three to six nights on the water itself.

What you can catch
Sea-run brown trout on the Río Penitente are the regional prize — fresh fish from the sea, fought in cold water. Chinook salmon run the Río Serrano. Brook trout and resident brown trout populate the spring creeks and exclusive private waters, and the Torres del Paine park water adds fishing most visitors to the park never realise is possible.

The Río Penitente is the water these are built around — brown trout that have run to sea and returned, silver, heavy and hard-fighting. The same river hosts the estancia that the ranch program is based on.

Introduced Chinook — king salmon — run the Río Serrano. A big, powerful fish in a river running out of the Torres del Paine massif, and a fishery very few international anglers have on their list.

Found on the exclusive private waters the outfitter has access to. A different, gentler day to the sea-run fishing and a good option when wind shuts down the bigger water.

Resident browns through the spring creeks and private waters around Puerto Natales, including water inside Torres del Paine National Park where the outfitter's permits allow it.

Rod setup & recommended gear
A 7- or 8-weight for sea-run browns and Chinook, with sinking or intermediate lines and a floating line for the calmer days; a 5- or 6-weight for the brook trout and spring-creek work. Wind is the constant in Magallanes — bring a rod you can drive into it. Full inclusions per program are being extracted from their 2026/27 brochures.
