About this experience
Iceland's rivers and lakes offer some of the most remarkable wild fly fishing in the world — crystal-clear glacial streams, volcanic lake systems, and wild Atlantic salmon runs that have drawn anglers from across the globe for generations. Andri has spent a decade exploring these waters as a full-time guide, building relationships with river associations and landowners that grant access to both iconic destinations and hidden local gems.
From the vast trout and char fishery of Þingvallavatn to the legendary salmon pools of Ytri-Rangá, and from remote highland rivers like Tungnaá and Kaldakvísl to the accessible south coast waters of Leirvogsá and Straumfjarðará, Andri tailors every trip to match your target species, skill level, and the season. He handles all logistics — including pickup from Reykjavik or near the fishing location — and can arrange accommodation through his network at no extra cost.
While 80% of Andri's guiding has been focused on trout, he is equally at home on salmon rivers and char lakes, and brings international guiding experience from Argentina and Canada to every conversation about tactics, timing, and reading water.

What you can catch
Brown Trout are the primary target across most South and West Iceland river systems, with fish typically running 1–4 kg in the better rivers and larger specimens in lake systems like Þingvallavatn. Arctic Char share many of the same waters and respond well to small nymphs, dry flies, and streamers. Atlantic Salmon run a select group of rivers — including the world-class Ytri-Rangá — with peak season from July through mid-August.
Iceland's most abundant game fish and Andri's primary speciality, accounting for around 80% of his guiding. Brown Trout are found throughout South and West Iceland's rivers and lakes, with fish typically running 1–4 kg in the better rivers. Þingvallavatn holds some exceptional specimens. Season runs May through September with peak fishing in June and July.

Season
One of Iceland's most iconic species, Arctic Char share many of the same river and lake systems as Brown Trout and can be targeted on the same day. They respond well to small nymphs, dry flies, and streamers throughout the season. A fantastic bonus species on any trout outing.

Season
A select group of Iceland's rivers hold world-class Atlantic Salmon runs. Ytri-Rangá is among the most celebrated salmon rivers in the world. The season runs from late June through mid-September, peaking in July and early August. License costs on top salmon rivers are premium — Andri will advise on availability and pricing.

Rod setup & recommended gear
A 9-foot 5-weight covers most trout and char fishing. For larger rivers, streamer work, or Atlantic Salmon, a single-handed 7–9 weight is recommended; a light switch or Spey rod works well on bigger salmon water. Andri can supply rods, reels, waders, and other gear for an additional fee if you prefer not to travel with equipment.

Andri guides on a curated circuit of rivers and lakes across South and West Iceland: Þingvallavatn, Ytri-Rangá, Leirvogsá, Straumfjarðará, Tungnaá, Kaldakvísl, Djúpá, Geirlandsá, Fossálar, Galtalækur, Vatnamót, and Vatnasvæði Lýsu — among others. The destination for each day is chosen based on the season, target species, weather, and what is fishing well at the time.
Andri is one of Iceland's most formally trained fishing guides, holding qualifications from three different schools: a two-year sport fishing guide programme in Sweden, a one-year adventure guiding certification in Iceland, and a six-month tour guiding course in Iceland. Safety, deep local knowledge, and genuine angling expertise come as standard on every trip.
